We received this note from a college classmate of Rowe's, who shared his thoughts about Rowe:

I first met Rowe Alt in the dorm at Winona State College in the fall of 1964. I noticed him sitting alone in the lobby, and I remember thinking he was a little different, with his coke-bottle glasses, his shirt buttoned up to the collar and, yes, the brief case. Some guys had been giving him a hard time so a few of us decided to befriend him. He was very kind and considerate and quickly became a loyal friend. From then on, Rowe was with us any time we were hanging out or partying. We also spent some weekends in Edina visiting his family. Over the years I would contact him occasionally and see him and our other friends, too. In recent years I lost contact with him despite repeated attempts to stay connected. I'm sorry I missed his obituary or I would certainly have been at his funeral. Rest in peace, old friend.
Sincerely,
Jerry Saabye (Alexander Ramsey class of 1964)

I didn't know Rowe Alt at all, but I do remember him walking through the halls, keeping to himself,

with his briefcase.  He always had his briefcase with him and I thought "he's probably really smart"

because he carried a briefcase.

I never spoke to him and I never saw him talk with anybody.  Now, in my later years, I wish that I

had taken the time to get to know him.  I think that, as a high school student, I always judged by

appearances.  I'm confident he would have been a wonderful friend, had I known him,

Rest in peace, Rowe.

I agree, Cindy.  I wish I'd taken more time to meet him.

Yes, how quickly "we"  judge by outward appearances and then realize what matters most is on the inside!!   I hope I have learned my lesson over the years!!  Sounds like I missed out on knowing a very nice and interesting person!

Don't we all feel we should have talked with people who looked "different" when we were in high school.  I imagine there were a lot of people who have become successful individuals who were probably introverts or worse when young.  I was one of those.  It would have been nice if people had been interested in breaking the bonds that hold them.
