Jim and I were best friends at Edina, but I lost track of him after graduation. We reconnected in 1977 when Lynne and I lived in North Carolina . He had graduated from law school and was assigned to an FBI position in Roanoak, Virginia.  He and his wife, Phoebe, spent a delightful weekend with us and it was as if no time had elapsed since leaving Edina.

We hooked up again in 1982 when Jim and his family(2 children) lived in Bull Run, Virginia and he was assigned to The Pentagon. At the time he was evaluating camera systems for Army OH-58 helicopters.  I rode into DC with him at 0 dark thirty each morning for a week and explored our nation's Capitol while Jim was at work.  Lynne and our 3 children stayed with Phoebe and their kids. Another wonderful reunion!

Although we had spoken by phone a few times after that trip, we moved to the west coast and again lost touch. We were shocked and deeply saddened to see his name on the "In Memory" list. I had always expected to see him again.

He was intelligent, witty, mischievous, patriotic and a true friend.  We shall miss him. RIP

John, I was sorry to hear about your friend, James Fitzner.  He sounds like he was a pretty interesting and intelligent guy, I can see why you were friends.  He led a pretty exciting life and it ended way too soon.
