In Memory

John D. Bailey

Bailey, John Dennis Sr. of Minneapolis, MN born September 28th, 1946 took his life on November 21st, 2019., dying at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Merrikay, his mother Lillian, sons, John Jr and Timothy (sp. Kristin), grandchildren John III, Emma, Josie, and Finn, sister Kathy and brother William. Preceded in death by his father Gail. To know him was to love him as so many did. Once dubbed the "Sultan of Sell" John's eloquence and wit afforded him instant rapport with all those he encountered, but it was his sense of humor and extreme generosity that endeared him to his family and countless friends. John was in medical sales for well over 40 years in many capacities including owning two corporations, one sold in the 1990s, and another he continued to thrive at up to the end. He never retired by choice, mainly because hard work was his way from a very young age, setting a wonderful example for the many who looked up to him. He was an outstanding athlete, lettering in Cross Country and Hockey for Edina Morningside High School including three years of varsity hockey, wearing lucky number 13 for the Hornets, and subsequently staying active and fit for the rest of his life. Above all however, John was a true patriarch. He adored his sons & grandchildren, married his best friend & high school sweetheart, had a loving marriage, and maintained an enjoyable social life. We will miss him dearly. Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 6th, 11AM (with visitation one hour before the service) at Our Lady of Grace Church 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation bbrfoundation.org

When I read John's obituary, I was happy  to learn he enjoyed a life filled with accomplishments and a wonderful family - I would have expected nothing less from him. May he rest in peace.  To Merrikay and family, you have my sincere condolences. May you, too, find peace.

Merrikay and Friends --  Condolences to John's family on this sad occasion.

Am sure many of our 1964 EMHS classmates have found memories of John.  Even if you were not personally very close to him you knew how he contributed to our school with his impressive athleic skills.  Hornet fans and Coach Ikola loved his exploits in the ice.  --  Mike Anderson, Washngton, DC
